Planning and holding a green conference, meeting, event or incentive travel program in Melbourne is easier than ever before, following the expansion of the Melbourne Convention + Visitors Bureau’s award-winning CSR Service.
Reduce your Conference’s Carbon Footprint
MCVB has created a variety of initiatives within the last year to assist in reducing the carbon footprint of Business Events held in the city.
Introducing the MCVB Event Carbon Calculator
MCVB launched a Carbon Calculator in 2009, which allows those holding a conference or meeting in Melbourne to calculate the carbon emissions of the event. It also provides advice on how to offset carbon emissions.
Melbourne's ‘Green Credentials’ Report
MCVB‘s Melbourne’s ‘Green Credentials’ Report lists the environmentally responsible initiatives of Melbourne’s leading business suppliers, making it easy to make an informed decision about choosing Melbourne and Victoria’s green hotels, transport providers and caterers.
MCVB ‘Green’ Incentive Website
In 2009, MCVB launched a ‘Green’ Incentive Website which highlights the ways in which delegates can enjoy the best of Victoria’s incentive travel programs, whilst keeping their environmental impact to a minimum. The website includes ‘Victoria’s Top 10 Green Incentive Activities’ and sample itineraries, making organising ‘green’ incentive programs in Victoria easier than ever before. From contributing to the sustainability of Victoria’s stunning surf coast by joining a revegetation program, to ‘grape grazing’ at a picturesque winery sourcing local and ‘low food miles’ produce, Victoria’s green incentive options abound.
MCVB Exhibitions and Roadshows
MCVB’s Asia-Pacific Incentives & Meeting Expo (AIME), held annually in Melbourne, was the first Business Events Trade Show in Australia to run as a Climate Friendly™ event.
MCVB’s Asia Roadshow 2008 was the first overseas event MCVB has run as a low carbon event, as certified by the Carbon Reduction Institute.

Carbon Calculation Research
In 2009, MCVB commissioned a report into carbon calculation and carbon offset companies offering services to the Business Events industry. The research, a first by any Australian Convention Bureau, was conducted by the Centre for Tourism and Services Research at Victoria University. The report features recommendations on what to look for when choosing a carbon calculation company, including carbon footprint assessments, strategies to both mitigate and offset carbon emissions, and certification for marketing purposes. The report has been made available free-of-charge on the Business Events Council of Australia website: www.businesseventscouncil.org.au
