3.
The Australasian Society for Immunology will organise a high quality scientific meeting. Australia is a major location for biotechnology
in the Asia Pacific Region. Melbourne, home
to some of the leading immunology research institutes in the world, will also facilitate links
with other medical research centres to further strengthen the program.
4.
Funding has been confirmed by the State Government of Victoria and this will be used to
aid the participation of young investigators and delegates from developing countries (travel grants to contribute towards airfares, accommodation and congress registrations).
5.
A brand new Convention Centre will be capable of hosting the whole Congress in one venue in central Melbourne.
6.
Tullamarine Airport, only 20 minutes from central Melbourne, is served by 22 international carriers with 465 direct flights per week.
7.
There are over 14,800 accommodation rooms within the CBD and 5,400 in walking distance to the Convention Centre. The City Centre offers a large number of budget priced rooms, with more than 150 registered backpacker properties and over 3,000 beds. Melbourne also has approximately 2,500 serviced apartments.
8.
Melbourne is a multicultural city that caters for all delegates’ religious, dietary and language needs.
9.
Australia and New Zealand are two of the safest, cleanest and most welcoming countries in the world. Delegates will have the opportunity to visit beaches, desert, skiing resorts and unique flora and fauna in two of the world’s most desirable destinations.
Scholarships
The State Government of Victoria is extremely supportive of our Bid and clearly understands both the economic and social value that International Events bring to Melbourne and Victoria. We have prepared a successful submission to the State Government to financially support the International Congress of Immunology 2016.
Funding of AUD$300,000 has been guaranteed.
This funding will be used to support:
-
Invited Speakers
-
Young Investigators from developed and under-developed countries
Although the exact criteria for the Scholarships has not yet been determined, it is anticipated that they will be assessed on a case by case basis. Acceptance of a refereed paper for presentation would be a prerequisite for eligibility as well as a brief supporting statement and curriculum vitae.
A Committee would be established specifically to manage the Congress Scholarships process.
