Melbourne’s superior convention facilities, reputation as a great city to visit, commitment to environmental sustainability and innovative bid strategies have seen the city secure a record number of international Business Events over the last two years.
Bringing International Conventions to Melbourne
By working with Local Hosts and Associations to bid for the right to host Business Events in Melbourne and Victoria, and by drawing on the expert skills and knowledge of its staff and representatives around the world, the Melbourne Convention + Visitors Bureau has secured more than 50 international conventions, meetings and events for the new Melbourne Convention Centre alone, expected to attract more than 100,000 delegates to Melbourne.
Recent Convention Wins
Major recent wins include securing the Parliament of the World’s Religions 2009 (6,000 delegates), the International Council of Nurses 25th Quadrennial Congress 2013 (6,000 delegates), and the International Congress of Paediatrics 2013 (5,000 delegates).
Benchmark Conventions and Events in Melbourne
Two major highlights include holding Melbourne’s largest ever incentive event - The Amway Greater China Leadership Seminar in April 2008, attracting more than 7,000 delegates to Melbourne and Regional Victoria - and securing one of the world’s top 10 medical conferences; the 22nd World Diabetes Congress, which is expected to attract more than 12,000 delegates to Melbourne in 2013.
