Melbourne – Australia’s Sporting Capital

Melbourne loves its sport, from the Australian Open Tennis Championships in January to the Boxing Day Test cricket match in December. In fact, Melbourne is the ‘Best Sports City' in the world, according to the SportBusiness Sports Event Management Awards, and is the only city in the world with three retractable roof stadiums.

International Events

Enjoy Formula 1 Grand Prix action, or horse racing at the Spring Racing Carnival and Melbourne Cup. From March to September, don team colours and head to Etihad Stadium (formerly Telstra Dome) and the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to attend Australian Rules Football matches.

Soccer, Basketball and More

The AUD$268 million Melbourne Rectangular Stadium will be operational in 2010. The venue will accommodate more than 30,000 spectators and will be home to the Melbourne Victory soccer team and the city's rugby league heroes, Melbourne Storm. HiSense Arena (formerly Vodafone Arena), boasts state of the art facilities and hosts cycling, tennis, basketball matches and concerts.

Melbourne’s Ice Sports Centre

A future addition to Melbourne’s world-class network of sporting facilities and precincts will be a new AUD$58 million National Ice Sports Centre set to open its doors at Waterfront City (Docklands) in 2010. It will host a range of elite ice sports events and will be a new recreational hub for winter sports enthusiasts.

Add a Melbourne sporting event to your conference or incentive itinerary, and enhance your team-building activity, or simply enjoy the experience and spectacle of Melbourne's passion for sport.
