Planning a Green Event in Melbourne
MCVB Leading Green Business Events
The Melbourne Convention + Visitors Bureau (MCVB) is committed to leading and supporting green initiatives in the Business Events industry in Australia.
As part of this commitment, within the last year MCVB instituted a record number of green initiatives, and also achieved a series of environmental firsts for any Australian Convention Bureau. These initiatives contributed to MCVB being awarded for its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives in the prestigious Victorian Meetings & Events Australia Industry Awards in 2009.
As well as leading by example within its own operations - for example MCVB set a new benchmark for exhibitions in Australia by running Melbourne's 2009 Asia Pacific Incentives and Meetings Expo (AIME) as a Climate Neutral™ event - many of MCVB's initiatives have been instituted to make planning a green event in Melbourne even easier.
Melbourne's 'Green Credentials' Report
Launched by MCVB in 2008, The Melbourne's "Green Credentials" Report was recently updated, and lists the environmentally friendly initiatives of leading Business Events suppliers, from hotel and transport providers, to venues and caterers. This enables Event Planners to take into consideration the environmentally friendly initiatives of leading suppliers when booking Business Events in Melbourne.

Carbon Calculator

In yet another Australian Convention Bureau first, MCVB has become the foundation sponsor of a new Events Carbon Calculator. Designed by the 'Carbon Reduction Institute', the Calculator enables Event Planners to calculate and offset the emissions of events held in Melbourne.

Melbourne for Green Incentive Programs
This year, MCVB launched a green, low carbon impact incentive website, making organising green incentive programs in Melbourne and Victoria easier than ever before. The website includes Victoria's 'Top 10 Green Incentive Activities,' sample itineraries, advice on planning a green Business Event in Melbourne and a 'Green Check-list' for Business Events. 'Green Check-list'
MCVB makes planning a green event easy through publishing a 'Green Check-list' in the Melbourne Planner's Guide, and by allocating a 'green logo' (
) on the 'Find a Supplier' section of the MCVB website to promote green contributors.
